BIO | CONTACT

I am a historian of the 19th-century United States, specializing in race, slavery and antislavery, and emancipation from the 1820s through the Civil War and Reconstruction. I am also interested in comparative slavery and varieties of bound labor in the Atlantic World.

Other major interests include the points of intersection between history, memoir, and auto/biography, as well as the use of history for both personal and public modes of memory production.

I currently teach in the Honors College at Oregon State University.
